The Modelling Club

About the Community

Profile of The Modelling Club.

Created as a club under the supervision of the Department of Chemical Engineering, the Modelling Club is well known as a community that brings together engineering enthusiasts with a shared passion for computer-aided engineering and modelling. It serves as a platform where members explore, learn, and innovate, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical applications in the field of engineering.

At TMC, we envision a world where the most pressing engineering problems are solved by the next generation of chemical engineers.

Our vision is that we seek to provide local solutions through the use of computer-aided engineering.

Our Mission

TMC seeks to accelerate the development of the next generation of engineering innovators by exposing them to advancements in the field of chemical engineering and engineering at large, equipping members with skills, enriching their research experience, exchanging ideas to deliver real-world solutions, and bridging the gap between academia and industry.

Objectives.

As a club, our objectives are stated as follows:

Community: We seek to build a community of like-minded individuals who share an interest in engineering modelling.

Collaborate: We seek to create a collaborative environment by engaging students from different academic backgrounds on projects.

Explore: We seek to explore practical applications of engineering concepts by using modelling tools and software.

Connect: We seek to connect our members to industry professionals and alumni through guest lectures, industry visits and conferences/workshops.

Innovate: We seek to engage in long-term projects and competitions to encourage innovative thinking and problem solving.

Develop: We seek to develop skills such as computational modelling, communication, teamwork, responsibility and leadership of our members.

Initiatives and Activities.

Members of the club have collectively and individually churned out a few simple software programs to help achieve some tasks as well as 3D models of some plants. A few of them are a 3D model of an oil mill, a virtual catalytic cracker, a coal gasification simulation app, etc.

That aside, the club also organizes training sessions and webinars where industry professionals and well-established people in the field of academia speak on important topics in the field of chemical engineering and their experiences in the field. A few of these webinars are listed below:

1. Demystifying Computational Structural Biology & Bioinformatics-based Drug Discovery for a Chemical Engineer - Eugene Marfo Obeng, PhD

2. Exploring the Role of Engineering in Carbon Capture – Mr. Kingsford Kusi.

3. Introduction to Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) with OpenFOAM – Dr. Baggie Nyande.

4. Biomass Valorization Pathways for Sustainable Energy and High-Value Bioproducts- Dr. Oscar Bedzo

Structure of the club

To ensure the smooth running of the club, our executive structure comprises:

Founder & Patron: Dr Jude Kwaku Bonsu, a lecturer in the chemical engineering department.

P.R.O: Victoria Ama Gotah, 3rd year Chemical Engineering student.

Deputy P.R.O: Queenslain Nana Afia Fosuah Boadi, 2nd year Chemical Engineering student.

Education and Technical Development Head: Edward Kwame Amaadi, 4th year Petrochemical Engineering student.

Deputy Education Head: Christian Kyeremeh Ampabeng, 3rd year Chemical Engineering student.

Deputy Technical Development Head: Michael Ayiam, 3rd year Chemical Engineering student.

Projects Coordinator: Maxwell Appiah Boateng, 3rd year Chemical Engineering student.

Deputy Projects Coordinator: Christopher Annor Junior, 3rd year Chemical Engineering student.

Financial Secretary: Ken Kobina Dadzie, 4th year Petrochemical Engineering student

Aside the executives, there are also members. The primary form of communication throughout the club is via our WhatsApp group where prospective members can join by filling a registration form on the club’s website.

Impact

The club sees and rewards the efforts of its students by showcasing their works during the annual Chemical Engineering programme, UniChem Day. Also, the club awards certificates to students who complete the training sessions organized and people who contribute immensely to the club’s development at the end of the school year.
